eikon
\Ei?kon\, n. [NL., fr. Gr. e?ikw`n.] image, likeness, portrait, representation,
Humanity is created in the image of God. We are all eikons, images of the creator and for that we all have worth and great potential. You. Me. The drug addict. The CEO. The AIDS patient. The child playing in the park. The president. The starving man. All of us are images- eikons.
Because we are reflections of God, each of us has the ability to do remarkable things when we are able to live in our design. Yet so much of humanity is prevented from reaching that potential because of the environment in which they live. Poverty, disease, famine, and war can cloud the truth that the way we were created communicates something about God. But poor families, orphans, and humans dying of terrible diseases are eikons. They are created beings, images of God, and to do nothing to improve their situations is to ignore great works of art. When you begin to look at humanity through the eikon lense, you begin to realize how valuable and important each person is.
The Eikon Project seeks to change the way we see one another. When we see others differently, we are moved to treat those around us more kindly, with deeper love and compassion. Selfish acts of disrespect and harm are committed every day by people without a clear understanding of who we all really are. The Eikon Project exists to help create that understanding which leads to a change in behavior, an action, like helping build a well for someone who has no money, or providing medication for someone who is suffering from AIDS, or caring for a child who has lost his or her parents.
We are all eikons, images of God. The child in Africa is as real as you and we are all of equal worth. There are things that can be done. Join us. Be an eikon.
